Japan developer sees Ala Wai harbor as wedding venue

A developer from Japan has applied to the state to add wedding chapels to the boat haul-out and fuel dock at the Ala Wai small-boat harbor in Waikiki.Ala Wai harbor

Honey Bee USA was the only entity to respond to a request for proposals to redevelop the facilities and to submit a development plan to the state Department of Land and Natural Resources.

The developer is required to retain the existing use — the boat haul-out and the fuel dock —on the two parcels of state land.

If the development agreement is approved, the developer would pay annual lease rent that starts at $545,086 for the first 10 years of the 55-year lease and rises incrementally to more than $1 million per year.

The operator would also have to pay 8 percent of gross revenues from commercial operations and 5 cents per gallon of fuel sold.

The developer also wants to lease 10,600 square feet of submerged lands next to the haul-out facility and about 11,880 square feet next to the fuel docks for mooring. The developer would pay the state rent starting at $134,880 per year or 10 percent of any mooring fees charged.

Keith Kiuchi, the local attorney for Honey Bee USA, declined to comment on the proposal. No further information was available about Honey Bee or its finances.

“We’re working on the development agreement now,” said Ed Underwood, administrator of DLNR’s Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation. “As soon as we have that done they can move it forward.”

Honey Bee USA plans to construct a three-story commercial building in place of the two-story building formerly occupied by Ala Wai Marine, which fronts Ala Moana Boulevard next to the Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki.

The new “Boatyard Building” would have a boat-repair facility as well as stores and office space. The developer also proposes to build a separate building for a wedding chapel.

The fuel dock and convenience store, located at the end of the peninsula closest to the ocean, would be replaced by a three-story building under the developer’s proposal.

While the new “Peninsula Building” would retain the fuel dock and the convenience store, it would add a wedding chapel on the second floor, a bar on the third floor and some ocean recreation facilities on the ground floor, such as kayak and surfboard racks.

Honey Bee USA’s development plan is separate from a proposal during this year’s legislative session to lease part of the 747-slip harbor to a private developer. That bill did not advance out of committee.

Vince Vaughn gets married

Vince Vaughn & wife He famously played a Wedding Crasher, but this time around Vince Vaughn was the star of the show.

The 39-year-old actor married girlfriend of two years Kyla Weber, a 31-year-old Canadian real estate agent , in a secret ceremony on Saturday, his spokesperson has confirmed.

Vaughn, who previously enjoyed a high-profile relationship with actress Jennifer Aniston, 40, tied the knot in Lake Forest, Illinois, where he grew up, in front of around 60 friends and family members. A source said the couple, who got engaged on Valentines Day last year ‘could not be happier.’

According to US reports, Vaughn’s wedding celebrations began on New Year’s Eve, with a party in his penthouse apartment in Chicago.

Guests stayed at the neighboring Knickerbocker Hotel and on Saturday took buses to the wedding venue, the Great Hall of Arnour House at Lake Forest Academy.

Vaughn, spoke about his engagement to Miss Weber when he appeared on Ellen DeGeneres’ chat show last year.

‘I figured this is not a ship to be missed because I will not forget this date. So Valentines Day was the day that I asked her,’ he said.

‘She makes me laugh. She is wonderful. I’m just thrilled,’ he added.

And in September Vaughn also revealed he was ready to become a father.
‘It’s the first time that I really want to have kids,’ he told People magazine.

Historic Wedding on “All My Children”

Gay Wedding; We’re not in Pine Valley anymore. We’re in Connecticut, at the Country Chapel, to witness the marriage of Bianca Montgomery and Reese Williams. In a first for a daytime drama, two lesbian characters will be united in marriage on "All My Children". But they had to do go to Connecticut, metaphorically, to do it. So the NYC sound stage was transformed for the day into a country wedding setting.

Brides.com went on set to watch the taping of the episode, which is scheduled to air on Feb. 16., to learn all the ceremony details. It’s a winter wedding, so the floral decorations flanking the aisle were huge, standing cascades of white silk flowers. The brides carried identical red bouquets. Frosty snow flecked the chapel windows. Bianca’s daughter was a flower girl dressed in a red velvet Lucy Sykes outfit.

Bianca, played by the actress Eden Riegel (Left), is famously the daughter of Erica Kane (the daytime drama legend, Susan Lucci) on the show. She described the ceremony style as elegant and classic. "It’s very much grounded in tradition," says Riegel.

The marriage seemed a next logical step in the storyline of the lesbian characters. "It’s a moment we both really believe in," she says.

The brides worked hard to have their wedding dresses compliment each other. Both had a long, lean, Grecian flowy feeling. Bianca wore a one shoulder Monique Lhullier gown flecked with gold beading. "It feels very of-the-moment," she says of the sari flourish and the gold accents. She also wore gold Aldo shoes. Gold was indeed a top trend in many collections at the most recent bridal fashion week.

Reese, played by actress Tamara Braun (Seated Left), wore a fit to flair Andrew Gn gown with center beading applique, with off white shoes. "Reese is an architect by profession," says Braun. "The dress is very structured so it fits her style perfectly."

In real life, actress Eden Riegel got married a little more than a year ago and found her own wedding dress from a private designer in Toronto. Her advice to brides how to have a wonderful wedding? "I held my husband’s hand during the ceremony and it really reminded us of why we were doing this," she says.

Braun, on the other hand says, "I’ve never been a bride in real life, only in make-believe. But choose a gown that’s a reflection of you."

And our fictional couple–Bianca and Reese? Will they live happily ever after the "I do’s?" This being a daytime drama there might be a few surprises before the honeymoon. —Michelle Preli (brides.com)
